At FUMC, we strive to have a heart for the least, the last, and the lost. Our mission is to make an ever increasing number of disciples for Jesus Christ, and to see a church that is passionate about Jesus name and living example of His love in their everyday lives.
We provide a nursery for newborns to 3 years of age, with experienced nursery workers and church volunteers who serve on a rotating basis. Please let them know of any special needs or things to comfort your children while you are in worship. The nursery is located in room #2005, past the restrooms in the hallway off Newman Hall.
Our church nursery is open during all church services and Sunday school, as well as during other church events throughout the week as needed.
Children are dismissed to Children’s Church before the message during the 9:00am Vine Service and after the Children’s message in our 11:00am Traditions Service. Children’s Church is for ages 4 through 1st grade, and is held by church members on a rotating basis.

Our youth ministries at Indianola First strive to create a Christ-centered community that makes disciples who impact their world. We offer a wide variety of activities including worship, biblical teaching, small groups, mission projects and annual retreats.
Quarterly Youth Worship Night– The youth come together for worship and teaching one Sunday night a month at 6:30pm in Bailey Hall. This is for all youth in grades 7th-12th and is currently led by a guest worship leader and speaker. This is a time where we build relationships among all ages and receive “big picture” Biblical teaching.
Sunday School – All youth, grades 7th – 12th, meet in the Youth Room on Sunday mornings at 10:00am. This time is led by Tombo Jefcoat and is a time of biblical instruction that help the youth grow deeper in their knowledge of the Bible and stronger in their faith.
We have small groups for the youth divided by Jr. High & Sr. High and boys and girls. These groups provide the youth a place to feel safe and comfortable about going deep in their faith and getting personal with one another in order to strengthen and build up each other through community. Below are the current small groups being offered:
Sr. High Boys – This group is led by Phillip Dawson and Matthew Miller and is open to all boys in grades 10th-12th. They meet on Mondays at Phillip Dawson’s house. Contact the Church office if you would like more information on joining this group.
Jr. High Boys – This group is led by Ed Robinson and is open to all boys in grades 7th-9th. They meet on Wednesdays at 5:30pm in Bailey Hall for dinner followed by a bible study.
Sr. High Girls – This group is led by Rebecca Gramling & Debbie Arrington and is open to all girls in grades 10th-12th. They meet on Monday nights at 6:00pm in Newman Hall.
Jr. High Girls – This group is led by Anna Mitchell. They meet on Tuesdays at 6:00pm in the Youth room. This is open to all girls in 7th-9th grade.
We have recently been attending M28 camps during the summer, located at Lake Junaluska Assembly in North Carolina. M28 is the highlight of the student’s year, where we grow closer to Jesus and to one another, engage in amazing worship services and learn more about God. We also take some time to go white water rafting, tubing, and shopping in nearby Waynesville.
Volunteering in Youth Ministries
We want you to be a part of our ministry in any way possible. Whether it’s serving food at snack dinners on Sunday nights before youth group or leading a small group every week, we need you to take part in what God is doing through this ministry. We would love for you to serve food, lead a small group, drive for events, or just hang out. If you would like to serve in any of these ways, please contact our Youth Minister, Michael Davis, at
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”
– Psalm 100:2
For many of us here at Indianola First UMC, singing is one of our primary forms of Praise and Worship.
We have three choirs here, offering opportunities to all age levels with no auditions required.
The Vine Worship Band leads the worship for The Vine Service. They focus on contemporary music appropriate for the casual worship atmosphere in Bailey Hall. Our Worship Pastor, Ethan, leads this group each week. Our collection of songs can be found here:
The Chancel Choir leads the worship for The Traditions Service. Accompanied by both pipe organ and a grand piano, they sing traditional tunes, ranging from Gospel to classical. They practice on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the Choir Room. Some of their songs include the following: Majesty and Glory, Bow the Knee, It Is Well with My Soul, Blessed Assurance, and People Need the Lord.
The Children’s Choir presents season- appropriate programs, usually around Christmas and Easter. They practice on Sundays at 5:00pm and meet in Newman Hall.
Being a part of a choir is a rewarding experience. If you would like to consider becoming active in one of the choirs, please contact:
John Weiss at (Chancel Choir)

We look forward to your family becoming part of the musical family at Indianola First UMC!
We are always in need of “tech oriented” helpers to run the light and sound boards as well as with slide presentations for both The Vine and The Traditions Service. If you want to learn how to do it, we are happy to train you. Contact Ethan if you are interested.
